It was a busy summer holiday weekend in a tourist town, so there were people everywhere. I worked in the office and had a co-worker come up to me and asked if I could help him identify a snake. I am still unsure why he picked me to ask, but I decided to go along with it. My first question was “Is it dead or alive?” He stated “Alive”.
As we were walking out the door, another co-worker asked where my husband was. Me being me, will use any Christmas Vacation movie reference any chance I get. I stated “Yeah, he usually eats these things” LOL. No one else got the joke, which really hurt my heart.
Outside the door, on the side of the building was a black snake climbing the wall. I turn to my co-worker, and he has a 5-gallon bucket and a set of trash grabbers. I asked kindly, “What are you going to do with that?” He states, “Put the snake in this bucket.” I know the look on my face probably said it all! I asked, “How are you going to keep it in the bucket?” He states, after thinking about that,” I don’t know.”
Now this co-worker was the funniest, kindest person I have met so I took the grabbers from him and told him I would take care of it. I grabbed the snake right behind the head and proceeded to carry him across the parking lot and entrance area over to the creek. The snake was about 2-3 feet long and I was very focused on how to release this snake safely. As I crossed the parking lot, I decided I would cast it out like a fishing pole, tossing the snake into the creek. As I said before, I was very focused…I went to cast the snake and it was the best cast I have ever made, BUT I didn’t notice the flock of geese. You guessed it; the snake landed right in the middle of about 7 geese. I tried!!!!
It’s the thought that counts??
