This was our fourth state park in Alabama, and I think it was our favorite.
While we were at Blue Springs State Park, we saw this motorhome with a distinct sticker on the side. It was a woman and her dogs. It reminded my husband of Fox and the Hound. When they pulled out the woman was driving the motorhome and the man was driving the SUV with a canoe tied to the top. My daughter was very impressed, even took his man card, until the woman turned down the bike path while leaving. Kinda ruined the moment. We went to Cheaha State Park a couple of days later. While we were at the campground office playing checkers, that same motorhome and SUV were leaving. When we arrived here at Desoto, my husband came back from running the dog and said, “You are not going to believe it; the fox and the hound are here too!” My daughter and I had to tell them we had been following them around for about a week, but not in a creepy way. He recognized us because of my daughter’s Navi on the back of the truck. They were super nice and we hope to see them around in the future. Yes, when they left, she was still driving the motorhome!
We hiked to Laurel Falls and Lost Falls. The trail was slick in places, and I almost wiped out one time. Mud went everywhere, but I didn’t fall. I almost did a split right in that mud hole. My husband said it looked like I just came back from Navy Seals training. I had mud in my hair, on my arm, and on both legs. I had to wash off in the creek. I was sweating and my face was red. I probably scared the people we passed heading in 😁. Well worth the effort!
We hiked to Desoto Falls and they were beautiful. We climbed a bunch of boulders and saw the biggest squirrels I have ever seen. While we were sitting around the fire roasting marshmallows, 3 deer crossed the driveway and went down the bank at the next campsite.
Desoto State Park has lots of trails, wildlife, waterfalls, and even a zip line course. If you like the outdoors, this is the park for you.
